14 Alive in 1800 at the time of his father's will. Iin the 1810 census there is a household head by a Sarah, who is taken to be his mother. That census numerates 2 males in the 16-25 age bracket - and these are taken to be Joshua and John. From that is deuced that he wa born no earlier than 1785. He does not appear in the 1820 census as a householder so it is assumed he died between 1810 and 1820. MEWBORN, Joshua (I917)

15 Allen Small guardian Feb 1838.
Cader Piercey guardian Feb term 1840 and again Feb 1844.
NEWBERN, John (I2232)

16 An application for Sons of the American Revolution gives his birth pace as Jason, Greene County. However his father died at Dobbs just a year later so that seems a more likely location.
Said to have been raised by his wife's uncle Lemuel Hardy II and wife Mary Sutton (in The Suttons of England and North Carolina)
MEWBORN, Deacon Parrott (I1204)

17 Apparently of full age when fathers will was made in 1782.
George then appeared in the 1790 census at Bertie followed by appearances at Edgecombe from 1800-1820 - Edgcombe having been carved out from Bertie. A pattern of potential household members and their approximate birth times has been constructed from the four sets of census data, though gives no names. There could have been as many as seven young females and six males. The pattern is fem1 1780, male1 1782, fem2 1784, male2 1786, fem3 1788, male3 1790, male 4 1793, fem4 1796, fem5 1798, fem6 1800, male5 1801, fem7 1803, male6, 1806.
The births indicate that the move from Bertie to Edgecome took place between 1790 and 1793.
No Mewborns/Newberns appear at Edgcombe after 1820, meaning either they have all died or moved. However, in 1830, but in Bertie, three new householders appear - a 70-year old Elizabeth, a William and a John. As a hypothesis these are proposed to be George's wife and two of the sons (who the earlier patterns suggest would be of full age at this point.
William and John are almost 20-years apart in age and are provisionally assigned to birth dates around 1782 and 1801 respectively. Both can subsequently be traced to Currituck, the most easterly part of North Carolima.
The early censuses suggest there could have been two other sons between William and John. Military records show that a Thomas, claiming to have been born about 1793 at Edgcombe, joined the army in 1814, and after five years service qualified for a land grant. The 1800 Edgecombe census shows a male child of the right age to be that Thomas. A Thomas of the right age, and claiming to have been born in North Carolina, appears in censuses from 1830 to 1860 at Wayne, Tennessee. That Thomas is presumed to be a son of George, though the evidence is not conclusive.
The yoingest son could be the James who appears at Burke, NC in the 1830 census. However there is no further trace of him.
Note that two other possible sons to George from around 1786 and 1790 remain unaccounted for. They could have died or migrated elsewhere - as yet unidentified.
There are probate papers for a Judith at Edgecombe in 1803. Might she have been a first wife to George (and mother to his children)?
NEWBERN, George (I2126)

1850 and 1860 censuses indicate 1790 as birth year.
Trees online at Ancestry suggest there may have been another son, George Washington Newbern born around 1830, However there are no records to link the two and when GW appears in census records he claims to have been born in Virginia to which William J has no documented link.

34 Birth assumed at Bertie since father lived there and his land is there. Ages given in the three censuses suggest a birth between 1766 and 1774. The earliest of these has been chosen to fit comfortably with marriage dates and the dates for his brothers. Thomas was under age when his father made his will in 1772 - so 1766 is OK for that.
Wm Jones Newborn was executor for Thomas's will and was bonded on 10 Nov 1813 so was clearly of age at that point. On the same date Charles Sowell was appointed guardian to the other five children who must therefore all have been under age. In 1817 Nicholas A was guardian to Thomas and James, so they were born after 1796 and Nicholas evidently already had land so is presumed to be the eldest son.
Son Thomas J executor for will.
At sale of property the widow, WIlliam J and Nicholas were the only family purchasers - an indication that the other children were under age.
MEWBORN, Thomas (I1489)

35 Birth assumed at Bertie since father lived there. Ages given in censuses suggest a birth date between 1756 and 1774, but none is recorded in 1810 which might have narrowed it. Birth date assumed a year on from brother Thomas.
The 1790 census shows a son born before that date and possibly two daughters. Childrens' births are derived from that and from the date of marriage.
Estate papers with claims on behalf of his remarried widow Sally (Dolby) and daughter Betsy (Whitehall) give April 1817 as the death date.
Papers petitioning for division of negroes make clear that widow Sally and children Elizabeth, William, Mary and John are his heirs.
MEWBOORN, Nicholas (I2097)

36 Birth assumed at Bertie since father lived there. Ages given in the three censuses indicate he was born no earlier than 1766, and as late as 1774. A date two years on from brother Nicholas has been used.
William is on his own in the 1790 census, so marriage and children are all of later dates.
1800 census shows two sons born in prior decade. Guardianship records indicate these must be William and Jeremiah.
The 1810 census shows that the oldest white female was no more than 25, i.e. born no later than 1785. If she is William's first wife then she can only have been about 13 at marriage.
In December 1821 there is a petition by William's children to have his estate and 'negroes' divided among the children now that Mourning has married Miles Badham. A further petition in March 1822 suggest that Miles and Mourning have been profiting improperly from the estate.

The Suttons of England section on the Mewborns includes a Seth 1867 and Levi 1869 as children of Parrott III. Neither appears in any records particulalry the 1870 census, though that has a William c1868, who does not appear in the Suttons list. Seth and Levi are therefore not included in this tree.
